Panning for Gold

A hidden tunnel found by a construction crew

In Stony Plain last week

Clearly man made, clearly connected to a . . . bank?!

Decades old, I wonder about its story

It was there all along, we just didn’t search

This summer I kayaked a river

-One I drive over almost daily,

But never think about what could be around the bend

A Great Blue Heron, wading royally on her stilt legs, that’s who

She was there all along, I just didn’t look

Years ago, a co-worker I didn’t know well,

Until taking an interest in his upcoming holiday

And learning (very quickly) about his passion

It was like he came alive in that office

It was there all along, I just didn’t ask

My heart swells with curiosity

How could I ever be bored,

In a world like this?

And I want to remember to make the effort

To pan

Under the surface

Around the bend

A little deeper

Because it makes life richer
